Pacific Grove High School Music Programs:

The Pacific Grove High School Band and Chamber Orchestra have consistently received unanimous superior ratings at festivals both in our area, and in the SF Bay area. They are considered among the finest high school ensembles on the Central Coast. Students from these ensembles have enjoyed individual successes as well, including acceptance into regional and All-State honor ensembles, command performances at Solo/Ensemble festival, and performances at Carnegie Hall.

The Breaker Band doubles as our marching and concert band. During the fall, the band performs at all home football games, school rallies, and parades in our community, as well as occasional parade competitions. Once football season has ended, the band becomes a concert band and performs at three concerts on campus, Commencement, and occasional performances at festivals or other events, both inside and outside of our community.

The Chamber Orchestra is consists of strings only, although on occasion winds and percussion are added for performances of full orchestra literature. The orchestra performs at four concerts on our campus each year, the annual Renaissance Rally, and occasional performances at festivals or other events, both inside and outside of our community.

The Introduction to Music Technology class is the newest offering of our Music Department, and was designed as a Vocational Education class. The class explores the many ways that music and technology intersect, and includes the study of technology in music composition and performance, recording and audio production, synthesis, and live sound reinforcement. Members of this unique class present an electronica concert of original compositions, record and mix a student rock band performance, and serve as sound and stage crew for the annual Student Voices concert.

In addition to the classes listed above, there are clubs for students interested in jazz or chorus.  Each of these clubs meets once a week after school.
